Cutting the cord, carefully
This afternoon, we embarked on an adventure.
After careful analysis of your needs, we decided that the Internet service offered by Hell was an excess cost. An insult to our intelligence but that is just an impression. We have had a week with satellite, and paying much money for pennies in bandwidth no longer stirred my heart. Just my wallet. And with that decided, we began the long discussion to keep our landline and remove our Internet feed. The provider reacts like a wounded serpent, when reducing money is a part of the game.
In brief, you can keep your landline, for safety reasons. Think of police, fire and the other things you need when push comes to shove. We are keeping the landline, but with some reductions in service. If I cannot see the caller ID (for spam and scam) I can do without but that part was actually free.
However, we do have to return their equipment. That decade old WiFi router has great sentimental value to the company, and it required direct questions about how to disconnect and return something that will go right into their dumpster. It is now done.
What does this mean, really? I could have put an old cellphone on standby, and checked the state of the battery every morning, or I can continue to send money into their bank account. I will do so, for now. And I will have to reconfigure the home network, to get the printers back online. All in good time.
The agent for his part showed great ability in both languages. The only asset that company has.
