Home from the treasure hunt

I feel like I’ve been on a day-long treasure hunt, where around every corner I found something else to bring up my feeling of contentment. Admitting that my satisfaction level isn’t particularly high, I still will look back on today as “a good one”.

Home by the shortest route

Another Friday evening in the life of a post-clubbing lifestyle. With a full belly I settled back to technically assist in the legislative process (I run the videoconference unit once a month) and prove that working long days doesn’t really get me down. Of course, once the call for adjournment has been made and the circuits shut down, my homing instinct is as strong as any other pigeon. Out to the bus stop.

Remembering the five cent bar

I’m trying to reconcile my desire to “own” stuff with an allergy to the “fair market value” model. It’s easy to explain with an example; I can remember the five cent chocolate bar.

Nodding and weaving

Another day is over at the office. The ankle chain is removed and stowed carefully for tomorrow. The telephone ring can be safely ignored, as emergencies never happen after quitting time. In fact, that’s why the employer provides voicemail as part of the benefit package. Pens down, computer off; coat, tuque, scarf, mitts – protection from the air-conditioning in the office – all nicely arranged. It’s time to head home.

We laughed, we cried

They came, they sang; we laughed, we cried. Life in a walnut shell, our quest for the next American Idol. While the rest of the nation worries about things like primaries and battlefields, those of us with a slack evening and cable TV can catch glimpses into the public moments of otherwise private people.

It’s all about the ADS

My priorities were a little skewed yesterday. While I paid rapt attention to an oddly shaped ball being mishandled by people bigger than myself, a whole other world was in presentation mode. The ads. The ADS. After all, the most important day of the year for those in the creative art world was yesterday.

A quest for plugs

One bit of advice given to “those who would be” authors is to write what you know. A sort of cinema-verité, I guess. Today, I’m going to write about the excitement of a Sunday afternoon before the Superbowl, when there is enough snow on the ground to make me wish I had a harness for the dog and a sled. Instead, I have a van and not much else to do. Off to shop.

Anecdotal comedy

At first it seemed like a segment from Movie of The Week, when the police car pulled up behind a pickup and requested that the driver step out.

The myth of zero

I was the proverbial “fly on the wall” this morning, sitting in on a workshop for teachers. My actual role involved running a low-fi video camera to capture the effort for posterity, but since my selective deafness isn’t always controlled I also happened to be a passive listener. Interesting stuff.
