Carefully saying nothing about everything

Another Sunday night, another election campaign, another presentation of Tout Le Monde En Parle. A political leader as the headliner guest, carefully saying nothing about everything. What an image; a very careful bull in a china shop. Nothing broken, because nothing is moving.

As seen through another’s eyes

When you’ve had a few birthdays the celebration becomes less important in the greater scheme of things. I’ll leave the exact definition of “a few” for another time. It may be that after a lot of such anniversaries (which get closer together, as time is an elusive thing) that they will seem more important, but I’m not there yet. So, I’m going to journal a birthday, as seen through another’s eyes.

Cover your (politically) virgin ears

The local political campaign is well underway; the real stories have all been told and we’re moving on to the fringe content in the media. If you are new to the wiles of the political fringe, then please cover your (politically) virgin ears for the rest of this tale.

It’s cold, so you’d better walk home

One of “my” online newspapers is carrying an open letter to parents today, explaining a policy decision from yesterday. At least they didn’t dilly-dally on getting the press release out. Allegedly (what a strange word to describe actually) the local school board in a central Ontario area decided to cancel school buses yesterday due to cold weather and blowing snow. For the safety of the students.

Sometimes it’s worth an Oscar

There have been a lot of Best Picture Oscars awarded. Well, not a lot; one per best picture, since no movie has ever won twice. And to be fair, some of them should never have won one. All part of the game. This weekend I rented the most recent winner, and my vote is in favour. The Departed is simply great.

Head pills

One pill makes you larger And one pill makes you small And the ones that mother gives you Don’t do anything at all Thank you, Gracie. This weekend I’m starting some welcome vacation time with a head cold, and so like all my self-medicating comrades in arms, I’m on the search for the right head pill. Things are more complicated than they used to be.

Obscured visibility

If a tree falls in the forest? If the sky is cloudy? At one point I have to stop believing in a certain number of the events of natural science, because the chance of being a witness is statistically low. Meteor showers? Rainy night. Northern lights? Cloudy skies. Total lunar eclipse? Same problem.

In like a pride of lions

Let’s agree on one thing; winter is not yet over. Forget removing the snow tires this weekend because the shop is quiet. Don’t try to hide the shovels under the deck. First of all, the Red Bull Challenge now needs a few good volunteers to clear the track. Second of all, the deck is now in snowshoe territory.
