Cover your (politically) virgin ears

posted in politics |

The local political campaign is well underway; the real stories have all been told and we’re moving on to the fringe content in the media. If you are new to the wiles of the political fringe, then please cover your (politically) virgin ears for the rest of this tale.

It would appear that some wise interns have discovered yet another way to further the fortunes of their leaders. Without mentioning ANY names, someone in the present party in power (after the writ has dropped, you are powerless, but that’s for another day) has made a calculated purchase. On the principal search engine, they have “signed up” all the names of the opposition candidates, as well as their affiliate parties. Then, every time you (not me) enter one of these terms, the advertisement that appears on the results page points back to the party that was once in power. Wise, don’t you think? As well, the references are not always complimentary. Wiser, don’t you think? Politics is war at home.

Of course, the “others” are not pleased. HOW DARE seems to be the remark of the hour. Unfair. It must be illegal. Referees, hand out penalties. Voting public, ignore those words on the right of your screen.

If you are one of those people that decides what party you should vote for in an election campaign by entering candidate names into a web search engine, be aware of the guileful antics of one of the parties. For the rest of us, move along; there’s nothing to see here.
