Too many standards to get the job done

Tonight I found myself in one of those labyrinths that block our paths when we want to do something simple in a short time. It follows, logically, that my task is not complete, and I’ve learned that if someone can find a hard way to do things, they will.

Beyond simple pocket change

Go ahead, empty your pockets. Among the fluff, the instant teller receipts and two slightly used peppermints, there were probably several coins. Probably pennies. Maybe a loonie or a toonie, if you are in a higher income bracket. But let’s wait for the jackpot.

Important words, if anyone is listening

Last Saturday, Dr. David Suzuki spoke in Charlottetown. Last night, he spoke in Quebec City. Unfortunately I wasn’t in the audience for either event, but the media did present a synopsis that will have to suffice. I believe he had important words, if anyone is listening.

The impossible illusion of the nacho

This weekend was more than a Superbowl Sunday. With sub-zero weather and no urge to watch network TV, I was off to the video store for a shopping trip. Waiting with anticipation

It will soon be daylight. My ephemersis (actually a nifty javascript that I found on a Russian site some years ago, but the word is cool) tells me that the sun will rise while I’m on the bus, so my ability to judge if i am casting a shadow will be somewhat diminished. The spirit will be there, and that’s all that counts.

Tracing a fine line on the floor

We were given sensitivity training today. All of us in the office (except for those on medical leave, vacation, parental leave or some other valid reason). A professional in the field of psychotherapy led us through the drill necessary to shield us from all forms of harassment. I feel safer now.
