And the house moves closer to one in every room
Around here, personal computers are like a bag of potato chips; you can’t make due with just one. There was a time when we only had a few working computers. One in CP/M, another in Geos, another in PC-DOS. We didn’t turn them all on at once, although we could have.
This weekend saw another flat screen join the inventory, two old monitors head off the the great incinerator, and a PowerPC with OS 8.6 go “into production”. Every family member now has at least one CPU at their beck and call, and if I can get a reliable pawpad, even the dog can join in the network.
So, there you have it; the house is wired and wireless, the electrical bill is possible decreasing by a measured amount, and everyone is happy. As long as nothing else fails drastically, we’ll be able to google up a storm.
Next on my want list is an old copy of Illustrator for the Mac. We have a digitizing pad installed, and the youngest artist wants to play in the big leagues. Somebody has a copy on offer with eBay this evening, so if I can have the box shipped here for a reasonable rate (that in no way, shape or form gives any business to those greedy pigs at UPS) I will bid my way.
Since the basement really only counts as one room, and has a server running 24/7 for no good reason, the house moves closer to one in every room.
