Focus my attention

Learned this years ago: deadlines focus my attention. Under pressure, I’m more effective. There, my secret is out.

The power bumped all the mailboxes away

The Oscars are behind us. I missed everything after the opening few minutes, but my ability to play catchup by reading a few online reports saved hours of waiting for something to happen. After all, the best picture was a silent movie (of sorts) and there wasn’t one of the nominees that actually had me as an audience member. Slow year for Tinsel Town. A break in routine

A strange, retro day at the office. Any time I’m met at the door, there’s a chance that things won’t be smooth; today fit the pattern. Seems that we’d lost our Internet feed during the night.

Eye in the sky, or the roof, or whatever

Not funny. The gang over at eBay came through, and with a MiniDisplayport adapter (to VGA) I was able to play the game.

Repeat until successful

My first reaction is “Hurrah! It works!”, quickly followed by “But why didn’t it work before?” You guessed it; wireless on a laptop with Linux. Part of the mystery of the universe.

Cloudy printing

Maybe the trick is to read the FAQ. Save some time. Ease the frustration. Etc. I didn’t. I won’t the next time. Move along; there’s nothing to see here.

Updates by approximation

Two hours now. I’ve been sitting in front of a screen, trying to get past the hurdle of system updates. Two machines, which means twice the fun.

Mapping my life

When you write your autobiography, don’t forget to include a map of where you’ve lived. After all, the detail is what makes the story.
