An assurance of money to come

I have to give credit to the federal government. For all their maladroit efforts to care for me, they manage to keep track of my address and birthday. I had read, somewhere, that once I reached a certain age, there would be “free money”. Yes, I know; my money, kept in trust until I was old enough to spend it with wisdom. Still, free…

According to the line

The dog is sitting, quietly. While I wolf down a plate of stir fry, he reminds me, politely, that sharing is righteous. I am unsure if he realizes that I keep the best pieces of beef, while sending odd bits of broccoli  stock and misshapen carrots in his direction.

Angst supression

How about that? An afternoon of music from the Alan Parsons Project. Brings back a flood of memories; this was popular music in my circle of friends, in large part because we shared the “common wealth” of our LP purchases. One liked, we all listened. Similar tastes foster trust.

No hockey for your city

In one of my favourite sports movies, Kevin Costner goes to great lengths to construct a decent ball field, based on the imagined words “Build it and he will come”. In the movie, it worked. Perhaps it has to do with baseball, though.

Up close and personal spectatorship

Two afternoons in a row with championship football. Colour me unaccustomed.  This time around, the Grey Cup game, which I’m watching “up close and personal” on my tablet.

Let it go

Finally! A game worth waiting for. You might know that I have a soft spot for Canadian university football, spawned by too many afternoons field-side, with my eye glued to the viewfinder of an SLR. Those times are gone, but when I can catch a game on TV, all is good.

Finally! Some football

Sunny day. Some new snow. Just enough to make installation of the new wiper blades into a game of snow removal. In passing, the tractor that clears our lane also stopped by. Winter has started.

A tight fit (just like last year)

Each year, around this time, I go through a ritual. Call it “filled with the best of intentions”, but I change the road tire from my bicycle and install the roller tire. An important distinction.

The plants are up and visible

If I go outside, and I sit at a table, and I eat BBQ… does it qualify as a picnic? Have to think about this one. We went to our third Village Feast (their 11th) this afternoon. Good food, served hot, with lots of strangers around me. Sort of the story of my life. I’d learned during my two previous years, so I avoided the odd mashup of beans in strange spices. Ditto for the bread.

A forecast of games on the horizon

When the cauldron of fire dies out, the party is truly over.  Now the citizens of a small city in South Korea can get back to whatever they do on a regular basis. After a quick check on the web, I learned that “they do tourism”, which means that life will actually go along with little change, other than the number of new faces in town.
