Time to restart my routines. Now, don’t get all “he’s going to exercise” with me, as I have other priorities. Some are simple: chop some ASA into my daily dosage. Others involve the dog. Can I actually find, cut and eat some cheese from the refrigerator before he clues in? Actually, yes, if I tie him outside first. But that’s cheating.

We didn’t hesitate, this morning. Certain campgrounds are equipped with negative karma; this one had a whole booklet to list their rules. I didn’t infringe on their desire to have social control. Come morning, after a coffee, we pulled our plug and got set for the great metropolitan avoidance.

Do you ever wonder about what happens to materials no longer used by the government? Especially the armed forces? There is an old tradition that the cool stuff gets sold to civilians, to be transformed into fun things. At least, that’s how I was first introduced to the world of amateur radio. An impossible to describe electronic block, after careful poking and prodding, would become a core piece of a radio station.

Today, we hit “pause”. Back in Canada, with level parking and all the amenities: laundry, wifi, etc. The doctor had warned me to stay tuned to my body. Any upswing in pain, swelling, etc. would mean coming back for a replay visit, and I’m cool with that. Besides, our next destination involves faces carved on a mountainside, and that shouldn’t be altered by a day off.

At home, I am able to pour a cup of good coffee, whenever.
However, when out in a restaurant, such a privilege is not apparent. We went
for breakfast, just as in other years, and we drank the house coffee. Not much
to say, other than that the colour and temperature were correct. The flavor…
nope. I guess it keeps me from sitting there for an extended period.

Ignore the hares; that’s not what dragged me down the
proverbial rabbit hole today. I’ve been renewing my knowledge of battery packs,
and things have really progressed over the last while. I came from the period
when Ever-Ready ruled. Simple blogs of carbon and goo, ready to furnish 1.5 V
on demand, temporarily.

Getting a new toy (that is how an adult must refer to a
gadget that doesn’t produce an appreciable increase in the quality of life in
the home) can be fun. Finding out that you already have an even better toy, in
the bottom of the sock drawer (a long story) is even better. Saving money, for
the NEXT toy!

Woke to new snow cover; pretty, but a wasted effort. What
was there for breakfast was gone by lunch. We’re at the moment when planning
anything outside is all a function of how willing you are to delay project
starts by a few hours. In my case, I want the BBQ back in its usual place, and
it might be by the week end. That will then require transferring a whole
(heavy) load of deck furniture uphill, and then I can declare myself ready for
the sunny days of summer.

I can’t keep up with the changes in amateur radio. Now that digital communications are the rage, it means that I’d have to give up my regular job and do nothing but test new versions of software. Yes, I know; I gave up my job several years ago. I have the time. It’s the fever that I lack.

I have a number of hobbies that are, simply, technical in nature. Nothing that others can’t handle. I mean, we accept that someone who wants to drive a car on a public highway has a minimum of experience, right? In my case, I put in a winter of driving around in small circles before passing a test.
