Now that we’re in the stretch (the week before holidays), I have more time to watch how badly some of our corporate partners actually treat us. Things were better when the phone rang and people stopped by the cubicle with their shopping list of personal problems.

I have a long and proud relationship with two “green” modes of transportation; my bicycle (less now than before) and the bus. Probably goes a long way to explaining my aversion to the generic take-out window. I’ve tried. There are a few ATM sites that have seen me drive up (in a car) and contort myself enough to get a few dollars from the machine. Food windows? Not so much.

Almost fits. I suppose that is OK when it comes to a t-shirt, but in the high tech world, it complicates life. We finally received the lamp for our main projector at work, at great expense. And it doesn’t fit. Looks the same. Has the same part number stamped into the casing. Goes in just like the other one. And stops. Never makes contact. We went so far as to unbolt the projector from the conference room ceiling, to give a better angle on things. No luck. The local dealer has been contacted, and if we bring the projector and both lamps over to their shop in the industrial park, they’ll take a look. Likely, they’ll see the same thing as us, but the problem will be a shared one.

The entrance at work continues to evolve. In a good way, I might add. After delays that stretched into months, the wood guy returned and made those stone arches into a new reception desk. Next up, an information screen has taken on an active role in keeping us informed. Finally, the darkness of the corridor is gone after the installation of a set of LED potlights. Photos to follow, soon.

My years of math classes (in high school) have left me poorly prepared for the scale of numbers required to get through the daily newspaper. Discounting “infinity”. Let’s look at some of the announcements from the rag, over the last few days. In passing, I can identify with few.

After a suitable period of reflection, I have decided not to change careers. The possibility of getting into Bitcoin mining seemed like a great idea, at first. However… several factors influenced my final decision.

As the moment where I can stop working and start living not working draws closer, I do enjoy watching how the subject is handled elsewhere. I mean, thirty odd years into the employed thing has to be worth something. Not according to a provincial study group that claims more than 60% of my fellow citizens have no retirement savings. Scary! Going from “living pay cheque to pay cheque” to “living with no pay cheque” is tough. Of course, the richest man in the province, who retired one month ago from his paying gig, has been appointed to the provincial electrical authority. He will voluntarily work without pay. After all, it’s about the power!

The local geek show on cable TV has suggested that I should be keeping my webcam covered up. Am I that scary to look at?

After checking out the credentials of some of the Dragons (it’s a CBC thing), I realize how deeply my socialist roots are set. I’d have a hard time “hanging out” with those who believe that their role in society is to “steal the cream from the top of the holding tank.” And now that the concept seems to be spreading (like an oil slick), to both national TV networks and south into the hinterlands, it is clear that greed is appealing to some.

Let the weekend begin. The dog is back, with a cone and booties (more Martian than ever). The household can now return to regular sleep interruptions. In the news, there may be a new tariff slapped on personal music players, although the finance minister is quick to reassure that this is not the same thing as a tax. I feel better. And in the workplace, yet another department was saved from dribbling on their printed pages by the act of replacing the toner cartridge.
