Unexpected rebate

Had my first cupful from the new machine, and it was good. Calm has been restored at our house. It helped that, while looking for something unrelated, I noticed that our machine had gone on sale overnight, with a reduction in price of about 25%. We called their hotline; an instant rebate was ours for simply showing up at the store, today, and presenting the original sales slip. Even the dog loves that kind of rationale for a road trip, and within a couple of hours our machine became an even better value.

Premature redemption

It’s a life skill: roll out of bed on a Saturday just in time to catch a ride to breakfast in town. After all, there’s bacon in play. We learned to max out coffee consumption as well.

The inevitable hiccup

As the dog and I headed down the highway, there was a certain satisfaction. This is tax installment day (a day early, actually) and we’re still solvent enough to make the payment without stress. The dog was along if the government decided to request additional funds; he would be a hostage. I jest, but with the mismanagement of funds by legislatures across the land, one must be prepared.

Dog goes shopping

Certain simple actions are more complex, as soon as you tether yourself to the dog. We’re in the city center, and the traffic levels are impressive. Both vehicle and pedestrian; I spent a good part of our time avoiding collisions. Getting a sandwich (takeout) required finding a proper dog hitch; missing the resto I wanted and going in elsewhere doubled the effort.

Already too late to order

Guess it can be too late to shop for the upcoming holidays. After coming across a really neat suggestion, I went online this afternoon to try and make a purchase. Something that could be delivered in just a couple of days, etc. Alas! The site let me know that there is no assurance of a delivery date in this calendar year. I’m not talking about something rare, or coming from distant lands by a slow boat. This is (was) the sort of gift I should find in a well-stocked store, locally. OK, not locally. Anyhow, I’m back to my research phase, and I hope the “next great thing” won’t be already beyond my grasp.

The retro catalogue

In today’s mail, I received something that is anachronistic: a catalogue. I appreciated the sentiment, but my approach to “retail” has evolved.

Never get out alive

As a parent, I realize that I have a duty to tell things to my children. And I have. Turns out that there are things I should not pass along.

From the craft fair, treasures

I had hinted that today would be a great day for shopping. In the city… but we didn’t go. By mid-afternoon, an alternative came up.

Skipped harvesting

Listening to nothing, when the volume soared. A murder of crows, hard at it. That’s odd; we rarely hear them, but this time around they were unhappy. Out, over the south field, an obvious intruder. A raptor. Not my friend the eagle; this may have been a harrier. Too much sun for me to be sure, although the wife did snap a few photos “on the wing”. Mustn’t get complacent, because there are a lot of birds around.

Sticker shock averted

Almost got by me… that odd tax that we pay here, known as automobile licensing. There’s even a dated sticker, so that society can spot the scofflaws. And I came that close.
