Already too late to order

posted in economy, sports, Wx |

Guess it can be too late to shop for the upcoming holidays. After coming across a really neat suggestion, I went online this afternoon to try and make a purchase. Something that could be delivered in just a couple of days, etc. Alas! The site let me know that there is no assurance of a delivery date in this calendar year. I’m not talking about something rare, or coming from distant lands by a slow boat. This is (was) the sort of gift I should find in a well-stocked store, locally. OK, not locally. Anyhow, I’m back to my research phase, and I hope the “next great thing” won’t be already beyond my grasp.

We gathered, as is our custom, for breakfast in a local establishment. Eggs and bacon (lots of bacon) and a full two hours of conversation fueled by a coffee cup that refilled without intervention. The group is, slowly, moving from the banal chatter of near strangers to deeper subjects. For example, what to do if the woodpile on the back step suddenly collapses (I don’t know!)

We could have followed our big book return session at the library with some driving around the countryside, except for the fog. Held back by a ridge, in town, out through the woodlots and lanes northward, we were left unable to do much else beyond navigate homeward. Tomorrow is another day, but the forecast isn’t promising. Meanwhile, the temperature peaked at 11C this afternoon, which means that we’re safe from snow for another bit. Unlike our last address, which should be getting ready for their first storm of the season by this time tomorrow.

The Rouge et Or have recaptured the Uteck Bowl, earlier this afternoon. The Vanier, next weekend?
