Never get out alive

posted in economy |

As a parent, I realize that I have a duty to tell things to my children. And I have. Turns out that there are things I should not pass along.

According to a new report on CBC, my children will not be able to retire. The economy doesn’t seem to offer much hope for those who are new to the workforce; they can look forward to the “Freedom 95” model. That’s depressing. I came through my time in the “salt mines” fully aware that I could, one day, just walk away. Savings, pension funds, whatever. And so, I did.

Been out of the work force for the last two years, and I like the schedule. However, I’d best not talk it up too much to my progeny, for fear of provoking a crisis or a long-term bout with depression. Seriously, CBC. Never? Even if they think small and save every single penny available, just like in days of yore?

As the US election marathon continues, some fallout. Seems that not all press is good, and the Trump hotels are changing name. To scion, which is possibly a nod to the children. Or to that ugly little car… I’m going to wait on this one. But, given that “he who would be the best ever”, that is an interesting turn of events. Now, the news reports say that this only applies to “new hotels”, but I did play Monopoly, way back when. The hotels were all the same colour (and none had Trump embellished on the roofline). I suspect that this new identity will be a given for everything, come next year.
