My normal life

Somehow, I figured things would work like this: yesterday, it was 2020. Today, it is 2021. Since I don’t have to write any personal cheques, no difference. True, the fridge calendar is empty, but all of my gadgets changed the date automatically.

Endless puzzle possibilities

Some of us grew up, convinced that with the right group of people, anything was possible. Consider being shipwrecked; all you really needed was a little buddy and a professor in the crowd and life would go on. Sadly, this week, part of the story came unglued. Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) has passed, due to Covid-19. Even the isolation of a desert island isn’t always enough to keep one safe from harm.

Holiday flooding

So close! We fell just below the “double digit” level for temperature today. Read into that what you will; this is a green Christmas. As well, the wind has kept the feeders free of freeloaders all afternoon, although the fox population is hanging close by. Sorry, but you’ve emptied the egg carton, again.

Seasons and the solstice

When the sunlight comes through the tunnel at Newgrange, the Winter Solstice is happening. At least, according to a video feed on YouTube that I checked (albeit twenty-four hours late). For those that attach seasonal shift to the length of the day, I guess it makes sense. We live in Canada, and there’s not much adherence to such details. Outside, a driving rain (so, no snow). And when I sent a photo of the magic tree to son #2, he noticed only one detail: we have no snow, and he does.

The bauble rack

Outside my windows, I can see trees. Different each from the other; all part of our world where birds and bunnies take shelter. As we move into that season where some trees must be sacrificed to a seasonal tradition, we have found an alternative. years ago, we decided to forego the “natural” and tie into the “artificial”. Yes, we have a tree-in-a-box, thank you very much.

Life in lockdown

Another day, complete. Which one was it? Friday? Huh. The “seven days in a week” doesn’t really apply, any more. I’ve gone to the more compact model: yesterday, today, tomorrow. Covers all the important details, I think.

Maybe I am (more) stressed

The moment when you realize that noise-cancelling headphones are a tool to be valued beyond all others; when the soundtrack of your life has derailed.

Sleep, perchance to dream

Please don’t ask; I realize that I am hours ahead of my regular schedule. I blame it on the dog, for waking me up. Also, on the perfectly clear night sky which should have shown me Auroral beauty, except that I can’t claim to have seen anything out of the ordinary. Oh, and my footprint in the snow (still involves the dog).

Under the shadow of wind and rain

I don’t have to avoid the wind and the rain, but right now being inside makes a lot of sense. I actually watched the farmer from below start to plow his field (for winter? Who knows…) and give up just about the time it was too dark for me to watch any more. I live in an area where people have to work harder, due to weather. Farming. Fishing. All equal in the shadow of a storm.
