Holiday flooding

posted in environment |

So close! We fell just below the “double digit” level for temperature today. Read into that what you will; this is a green Christmas. As well, the wind has kept the feeders free of freeloaders all afternoon, although the fox population is hanging close by. Sorry, but you’ve emptied the egg carton, again.

We spread the big gift reveal over last night and this morning. I have lots more apparel, and she should not get lost in the woods. With that, life continues. I have no idea how the kids made out. Once you fall off the S.Claus mailing list, the booty level recedes.

The (smallish) turkey is in the hot place. Apparently I’ll be getting freshly roasted fowl for my evening meal. Soon? Soon! One thing about trying for a normal holiday is that you get to remember all those cooking skills that aren’t used regularly. There’s also a need for portion management, what with only two humans and a dog around. Won’t need to set places for a dozen.

I like watching rail videos; turns out that TikTok has enough to get me through an afternoon. No big plot twists; the train goes by and the horn blows. Doesn’t matter who did the original post.

At our last address, we had a nearby river that had an annoying habit of flooding its banks. The people, who live on a tiny island mid-stream, are back in the local news this afternoon. Warm weather, snow melt, a refusal to accept the precarious balance between dry floors and nature. Why the government continues to accept this as “normal” is one of life’s little mysteries.
