Under the shadow of wind and rain
I don’t have to avoid the wind and the rain, but right now being inside makes a lot of sense. I actually watched the farmer from below start to plow his field (for winter? Who knows…) and give up just about the time it was too dark for me to watch any more. I live in an area where people have to work harder, due to weather. Farming. Fishing. All equal in the shadow of a storm.
My grandfather (one of them) was a blacksmith, and I’d love to know more about how he chose the forge and the hammer as his way of life. I mean, the trade was necessary, in the eyes of his neighbours. And he did keep animals and plant the necessary vegetables for day-to-day. But, I want to know more. Running out of relatives that were around in the same period.
Our basement renos are now awaiting more materials. Specifically, the framework to hang a suspended ceiling in one section. Turns out that the local hardware store is out of inventory, so the man at the center of the job will head for the city tomorrow. We’re now considering the routing of my various antenna cables; a sign that the fundamental part is done. I don’t plan on being “installed for Christmas”, but I might start sketching out my furniture placement. Or ordering a new desk surface… so many possibilities.
Soon be time for supper. There are groceries, inbound, but I don’t have an arrival time on that. I did renew my driver’s license by phone today, so there’s my highlight.
