Where is the hare?

Hey! Hare! Are you there? Where? This is the time of the season (there are several different times, actually) where our local rabbits disappear from view. Off getting their fur recoloured for the onset of a new season, probably. It causes a certain level of angst around this house, with fears that the predators have been at work.

Against the wiles of winter

Along the way, I was trained to solve problems by analysis. Brave words, but it does work, in the presence of enough information.

The dog’s new plan involves me and a leash

The dog has a new plan. If he attaches a leash to my wrist, he gets to wander. Mainly along established roadways, but a big move up from “the bed to the couch to the floor; repeat indefinitely”. I wonder what people speeding by in their big pickups think of the sight.

Seeking Eno

Last night, I slept in my mother’s driveway. On purpose. I don’t think that the neighbours even noticed, although the sight of an oversize van that could not fit in the old garage might have given pause. This morning, as we listened to a party of parents and children waiting for the school bus, there was reason to reflect on how far life has evolved from when a school bus was required in our lives.

Geeks never truly retire

Part of the life description for anyone with technical skills is that you don’t get to retire. Sure, the salary and benefits diminish. But seriously, do you think that those with the sort of problems that require an intervention care?

A buffet of leftovers

Another lovely day; out in summer attire as we added fuel to the big beast.  I’m going to have to realize that the tank is larger than on the car, and the cost will escalate in consequence. In layman terms, we now have the equivalent of a big pickup. Not leaving the driveway keeps the cost low. Might be the only way.

Not party to the struggle

There are four planets arrayed along the ecliptic right now. Would be quite a view, except for some misplaced clouds. Oh well, maybe this time tomorrow.

A long day’s journey into night

I have a faint, fading memory of a chirping sound that used to regulate my sleep cycle. No bird; this was a tiny electronic bother that I purchased back in the last century, when Radio Shack supplied most things electronic. I still have it, but I hid it deep in a drawer and haven’t depended on its alarming nature for years. Coincident with retiring, actually.

On top of a hill

Suddenly, I found myself on top of a hill, on the edge of a huge cemetery. On the horizon, the ocean, and at my back a row of trees. Unfamiliar territory.

Cut them all down to size

That feeling where, as darkness sets in, knowing that you have a job to get done. In this case, just like every other month, the “recup”; it has to hit the curb before bedtime, because the truck might be early.
