The dog’s new plan involves me and a leash

posted in environment |

The dog has a new plan. If he attaches a leash to my wrist, he gets to wander. Mainly along established roadways, but a big move up from “the bed to the couch to the floor; repeat indefinitely”. I wonder what people speeding by in their big pickups think of the sight.

It was Saturday. That should be a key to a puzzle (it wasn’t). We had a “planned power outage”, when the electrical company paused the world to replace some stolen copper at the local switching station.  In passing, I missed some sort of locked room adventure, last evening, complete with undead bodies and screams. Maybe next year. But back to Saturday. I did receive an offer to “go into the city” and couldn’t think of a single reason to spend hours in the car. The dog, n/either. See above.

I did point son #3 to an online source for an oil lamp chimney. Haven’t considered where those came from in more than a half-century. I mean, wasn’t that the reason for having a general store in every village? To keep the lights contained? My hope is that he’ll figure out why the rest of the country moved ahead to electrical lighting. Trimming the wick and cleaning the chimney was done through necessity, not curiosity.

Outside, a balmy 13C this afternoon. Not exactly the deep of winter yet. I should try to locate a shovel, just in case. The dog will appreciate having a path to the outside world ASAP once the snow season begins.

Meanwhile, the news had nothing of note. We wore out the news cycle two days ago. Now, it’s just worry that the Conservatives might reset the progress clock.
