We live on an island, in the ocean. Just like in the movies,
the water is found in all directions. And because we’re in the ocean, the water
rises and falls, twice a day. Not much; just enough. In contrast, those folks
in NB/QC/ON/MB are facing a very different problem.

Just outside the window, a harey array (OK, an array of
hares). All busy, keeping the new grass roots short. I wonder… right now, there
are four, but what if we could improve the population? Could we park the big
green mower, and go green, for real? Isn’t that the long term goal of most
governments (OK, not ON or AB, but most)? I’ll have to give this some thought.

The small size of our provincial community was shown, today,
but for the wrong reason. A young man and his much younger son died in a
boating accident. Given that the young man was on his way to joining an even
smaller community (that of elected officials), his name and face were well
known, and our community is marked by this loss. I know his father, because
that’s how it works in a small community; you always know someone from the
family.

New aches and pains; this was the first beach day of the
year, and between walking the waterline and dragging behind the dog, I may have
awoken certain muscle groups that had missed the calendar update. No big deal.
Getting out to where the white noise level is actually pleasant, and before any
bugs hatch is wonderful. Of course, I was overdressed for the occasion. No
danger of sunburn with three layers of heavy garments, but the beach is
eternal.

Earlier this afternoon, we went for a walk along our nearby
trail. The old railway right-of-way, recycled into something less dependent on
regular maintenance, proves a point. In the right circumstances, industry doesn’t
always leave chaos behind.

I arrived at the window, after the fact. Still, no doubt
about any of the details. A young fox was just at the edge of the doorstep,
with two kills: a mouse and a squirrel. In her jaws.

Locally, on the first day of April, the rules about who is
welcomed change. In particular, the National Park gets all up in their hair
about where my dog can walk. And so, this afternoon, we ran out the calendar by
heading over to Greenwich. That section of our parkland that I rarely visit
during the high season.

Another trivial evening, with a small team; we tied for
third, which is about as good as can be hoped for. The teams are getting
stronger, over time, and the questions fall outside my range of knowledge. Am I
getting too old for the game? I’d love to bring in some Trivial Pursuit cards
and see how well the kids would do with stuff that is, I admit, from before
their time.

In another, parallel universe, my post from yesterday would
have served as the “drop that caused the vase to overflow”. It wasn’t,
obviously, but Canada has grounded all 41 of the Boeing 737 Max 8/Max 9 planes
used in Canada. The US followed, several hours later. Suddenly, Canadian
airlines are “short” an estimated ten to twelve thousand seats, short term.
