Following Jupiter
Day One of the campaign. Does being a politician mean that you must lie?
My day went according to plan. A plan, I might add, that came to me in the middle of the night, as I sat watching the moon peek through the clouds, closely following Jupiter along the ecliptic. Yes, I’m now affected by the yawns as a result, but the plan…
The deck now has a BBQ and a full set of very heavy furniture. All moved from winter storage, with feats of lifting not seen for many months. Moons. Getting an oversize table uphill and into place reminds me that the stuff is weatherproof, and maybe I could opt for leaving it all in place through the cold snap. OK, maybe not the BBQ, but the rest of it. I’ll need another plan, obviously; another “white night”, in about six months time.
My sleepy state also took down my guard enough for me to agree to a walk along the highway before sunset. Not warm, yet. Still plenty of snow in the ditches and woods. We hoped to see some wilder life than our dog, but there was nothing. No, really.
Quebec is, again, pondering how life would be better if the residents only needed to complete one set of tax returns, rather than two. If those involved ever learn that nine out of ten provinces already have this innovation, there will be some angry pens raised. Actually, one of my sons took the time to learn how the “great divide” occurred, and it dates back to wartime, when the only way to protest conscription was to complicate the lives of the common citizen. If you doubled the required paperwork, maybe they wouldn’t notice the war.
