Must I stand guard?
Every time I hear a vehicle in the driveway, and the dog doesn’t, I wonder. Is he turning into one of those older deaf canines that we used to see in the cartoons? This time around, that stealth courier guy who avoids any contact with the homeowner, as he hides boxes from Amazon in the garage. Perfect camouflage for said containers. Some day, I’m going to learn about all of our deliveries that passed under our radar. I’ll blame the dog, of course.
Day Two of the campaign. I decided to check with the authorities, and find out if I was eligible to vote. For now, the government site has disabled all registrations, as they begin a “door to door” campaign to spot citizens. What if the dog fails to hear anyone, while he guards me as I nap? Will I be thwarted from exercising my franchise? Am I expected to stay on guard for the next few weeks, and avoid my comfort time on my pillow? This does not bode well.
Realizing that the weather will get warmer, I decided to contact my HVAC guy, via email. Surprised is an understatement, when one of the sons phoned me back within minutes to discuss my needs/wants. His father is recuperating from some intervention, so the kids are picking up the slack. I might actually get something installed before the garden flourishes! Trying to convince local contractors of our will to pay for future services (as yet undetermined) is a challenge. Forget the aggressive sales pitch; it gets lost while crossing the bridge, or something. Anyhow, I might get a quote early next week.
