Up the cliff

This morning I woke to the sound of a boat horn. Not at all like my usual cuckoo. We’re just kilometers away from the ferry terminal at PAB. In a small campground which is beside a beach. One with a shipwreck according to the person who works here. An old shipwreck. I stayed around while this morning wild birds were hunted. At least I assume that’s the right word to use none were ever killed but photographed. We decided to seek out something else on my tiny bucket list. I wanted to visit the site of a disaffected lighthouse. The Rose Blanche. Brought here by boat about 300 years ago from granite quarries in Scotland. The light is at the top of a high cliff which requires quite a climb. Especially when you can’t see where to place your feet. But we made it and I had pictures taken of me. Enough to confuse the children. After we came down we realized that supper was soon so we found a nearby restaurant that served a delicious halibut steak. The kind of food that would have been on a table at home during my childhood. The lighthouse was never put back into service when repaired. No longer important in a day where we have satellites in space. Around here construction is difficult and I can only imagine what was required to get all those granite blocks up the cliff facing a good wind, sure those lass needed a strong back. We see e there’s a lot of water around here. Around every corner it seems. Constructing roads is not for the light of heart or faint of heart or any other kind.
