Avoid the kiss

We now follow a number of blogs. And bloggers, I guess. Too much free time on our hands, and the price is right.

By mail or carrier pigeon

I know there’s a song. An earworm. Something about an ordinary day (aren’t they all, when you reach the right age?) My good idea for today’s blog is to list some of the exciting details, from mine.

Back when the whole family would pack and roll

My cuckoo just sang SEVEN. That’s a polite admission to myself that I did not sleep, all night. And that I will probably regret that bit of self-abuse, as the day progresses. No real reason, but I did use my time well. I have a much clearer view of how long it would take to travel from Sydney to Toronto, by train. And how many major waypoints we would cross, waiting for other trains to join the consist. Please, do not remind me how most of the important trackage is gone, and how those imaginary trains haven’t left the platform in a lifetime. I had fun, and the price of admission to my simulation was fair value.

Try to teach your children well

Please, take note. We all have personal soundtracks for our lives. Mine might have elements in common with yours, but the playlist will be unique. I’m not finished curating my own.

Do you feel lucky?

Ignore the cinematic reference. Just ask yourself one question. “Do I feel lucky?”

An excess of breeze

We are having a windy day, up here near the Point. Windier than usual. Rough up here with the similarity to the hurricane a few months back. No shingles in the air, but I suspect our family suffers from simple PTSD. Post tropical storm dementia. We are watching the trees to determine the prevailing wind direction, and trying to figure out why it is coming from all quarters. The noise suppression headphones are in use, and I even went downstairs to check if anything excessive was taking place. That waterfall sound (in the sump hole is proof that we aren’t into deep-freeze weather just yet.

Will we be powerful enough?

You can never have too much power. I am referring to electricity to run your various gadget, not the fake “political power” which is ephemeral unless you come from a long line of intermarried cousins. For this discussion, let’s stay with  the electricity that comes out of your wall outlets.

Then she turned and returned

I feel like I am back in school. Not the better times. More like the times when I had no idea what was going on, but I continued each day waiting for the impossible. A lightning bolt of understanding, as I slogged through the quicksand of my math classes. One that would harden the sand and let me escape to safer shores.

In a different venue

The question came as a challenge. Not “could I” but “could I play”. As in Wipeout. Think back to life in high school. I had the unique chair in music class. More or a throne, really. No scales, and only rare moments to perform solo. When someone heard a neat new single, by the Ventures, it was the moment to throw out the challenge.

Awake, alas

Let me take a moment to mention something important. The ability to sleep, without interruption, on demand; wasted on the young. It’s something that senior citizens want, and need, and lack. The old fellow, over in the armchair, with his eyes closed… not actually sleeping. Just wishing. No, he is not snoring.
