Just look pretty

For some, an early sign of spring is that rodent that comes seeking a shadow. However, I have found a different rodent. The realtor. This is the time of year when we get lots of chances to acquire land. So small morsels, a few acres, more or less.

Running water and a garage

The story is as old as time. Imagine the cave dweller, stopping by to see a newer hole in the hill. Then, back at home, recounting the details to the family. “They even have running water, from a slit in the stone”. And wondering how to get something like that in his grotto.

Built to last, apparently

This is one of these days where I don’t see very much. A hazy shade of winter, if you will. We have been trying to turn back the clock on some previously-owned technology. Learn about the specs, and my own specs aren’t enough. No matter.

The other end of the teeter-totter

Did you ever go on strike? The classic kind, with picket lines and funds from other interested parties and all the other, associated details. I was lucky. During my more than three decades of me against them (the employer) I spent a total of one afternoon standing outside my place of employment, trying to look like my effort was valuable. (It wasn’t). Based on a two hundred day working year, my time outside barely covered the eventual pay raise. I was in the public service, and this was performance theater.

One piece at a time

There is a term for things that mesh together. No, not gears. I thought about that already. This is more  about concepts that mesh. Here, I’ll give you an example.

Mismatched socks

I have given some thought to what I can and cannot do, with declining vision. I come away optimistic. Sure, my ability to read is compromised. I will have to take care when choosing a tin of food from the pantry, but I doubt that there is anything really unpleasant on my shelves.

Don’t play with your food

One of the most important rules conveyed by a parent to a child comes down to a sentence. “Don’t play with your food”, Not before preparation, not during the meal, not after the fact. I think I will add emphasis to that last section. Not after the fact.

My new take on old poetry

She asked, with a deadpan delivery, “what are words worth?” She, of course, being Philomena Cunk, my new preferred comedic character from YT. As seen on the Beeb. I don’t really know for sure. An act, but a great one. I stand convinced that this is how history should be taught.

To fix or not to fix

Nothing lasts forever, now that we don’t have old-school Frigidaire iceboxes. Here, we know when we purchased  the current fleet of big kitchen toys, and a decade is a long time.

My winter games

A certain degree of cynicism is inevitable, when people watch how public monies are spent. This morning, someone remarked that the streets were in need of snow removal following the weekend, because the plows were busy clearing the parking lots. We are hosting a national round of sporting competitions. Visitor will need to park, right? And in one phrase, a summation of public support (sic).
