Seep and sanitation

My life has become an ongoing quest for knowledge. About one thing. Sanitation. I refuse to admit how many videos I have now watched about black tanks, grey tanks and whatever colour you apply to fresh water. Clear. Is that a colour?

Unreasonable promises

Dear members of the banking industry. Recently, you have been giving me  a lot of directed advertising, letting me know that I can watch my savings grow, if I leave my money with you. Please, colour me incredulous. I live in Canada. Since the offer on a savings account has not changed in a meaningful way for the last decade, I fear that your  writers are projecting growth beyond your means.  Somehow,  based on my understanding of compound interest, there are not enough years left in my lifespan to actually make a significant difference in my bottom line. Yours, I cannot say. Please, let me know if I have misunderstood your good intentions.

Should I cut the wire

After learning, this afternoon, that long term family friends  have given up their land line, I have to rethink certain things. Was it  a way of surrendering their phone line, but not the phone number? Here is the thing. The  telephone company does one thing, consistently. They raise their rates, year after year. Nothing else seems to change.

Mental prep for physical trip

If you have been stopping by here, over the  hast decade, you will know that we’ve made some significant changes around here. New view from the window, new house, new car, almost new dog. Indeed, we have been busy. And to fit in with all of that, we have also learned a little about the way of the nomad. In the RV.

No tooth marks, please

Do you remember that person in our grade school class that loaned pencils. No, not the rental person *who went on to be the loan officer at the bank. The other  one. Good Samaritan. However, there was an onerous examination of the pencil when you brought it back. Checking for excessive use, and new tooth marks. Yes, that one. There actually is a need for that mindset, in the workforce.

One word in the forecast

Tight now, some are enjoying the ski season, locally. Incredibly brief. And all it takes to strike  a chill into their hearts is a single word in the forecasts. Rain. I have to assume that wet means bad, and that the easy glide through the fields will change to a slide. Not to forget that rain generally means that we are going to lose the snow cover, and hearth will be forced to turn to other sports.

Cleared for action

Yesterday I cleared the deck. Singular. This is not a lost Hornblower story, and action is relative. Locally, winter is not quite over.  New snow. Heavy snow, because in spring that is the game. Our deck can with stand reasonable loading, but I do not want to press my luck.  Now, things are clear, and with the afternoon sun you can imagine an early spring.

Cheap fun

There is a certain folk charm in many of the DIY videos I watch. No need to demonstrate mastery of a topic. Just get out there and let your power saw do its thing.

A few moments of frustration

Some days are more frustrating  than others. When a task takes much longer than the mental time I have allotted, and I realize that  most of the frustration is rooted in my inability to see what I am doing, I have to wish for the good old days.

Wander while we wonder

During the brief interlude  before supper, we went off for a ride along the north side. This is the time of year were signs of spring are everywhere. Ducks in the lake. Lanes now open for travel. Realtor signs, as well.  Now, we are not seeking  a new place, but it is fun to see what might be available to the kids, if they suddenly became rich.
