Unreasonable promises
Dear members of the banking industry. Recently, you have been giving me a lot of directed advertising, letting me know that I can watch my savings grow, if I leave my money with you. Please, colour me incredulous. I live in Canada. Since the offer on a savings account has not changed in a meaningful way for the last decade, I fear that your writers are projecting growth beyond your means. Somehow, based on my understanding of compound interest, there are not enough years left in my lifespan to actually make a significant difference in my bottom line. Yours, I cannot say. Please, let me know if I have misunderstood your good intentions.
The financial industry seems to have a lot of ways to attract my attention. However, even my piggy bank offers a better return on my savings. If I want to make my money grow, I will have to find a better way. One politician, who is a millionaire, says I should invest in bitcoin. Again, I am unsure. Perhaps my basic understanding of financial systems is flawed.
I think I will stick with my own pan. That includes keeping my purchases to a minimum, and paying my bills on time. Anything else is more of a mirage. Around here, the only group growing their savings are the squirrels. Cornered the market for bird seed, at this address. The bird as too distracted to notice that they are being robbed, every day. And back in the woods, there is a growing store of sunflower seeds. Not flowers.
