Try to teach your children well
Please, take note. We all have personal soundtracks for our lives. Mine might have elements in common with yours, but the playlist will be unique. I’m not finished curating my own.
About a week ago, David Crosby passed. He has been part of my playlist for a very long time. I cannot name a single defining song. That’s a good thing. And, he partnered, in various combinations with Stills, Nash and Young. In no particular order. I have been watching documentaries. When you reach a certain level of fame, an interview morphs. More details.
And I am gobsmacked.
So much talent, with so much internal stress. We’re fortunate that the world has survived. Yes, their music is that important. There are moments of synchronicity. There are dissonances. Any time that much creative talent is places around the kitchen table, things happen. That the rest of us continue to play with the loose threads in the tapestry is our fault.
Where does that leave (the rest of us)? Well, I am at an age where I sense a trend. The good ones are going. One after another. This will not lead to a moment where someone will pen the epitaph The Day The Music Died. It does require that the rest of us realize that nothing and nobody lasts forever. There won’t be any more “Woodstock”. There might be something of equivalence.
Keep on listening to the past. Try to “Teach Your Children Well”. Give suggestions to others, so that their life soundtrack will evolve. Watch for that hidden turn in your own highway.
