In a different venue
The question came as a challenge. Not “could I” but “could I play”. As in Wipeout. Think back to life in high school. I had the unique chair in music class. More or a throne, really. No scales, and only rare moments to perform solo. When someone heard a neat new single, by the Ventures, it was the moment to throw out the challenge.
And I could. I had much more complex pieces in my repertoire, and my mental practice was saved for “In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida”. That one, unfortunately, required more drums than I had available. A muted tom tom? I could (and would) oblige.
Life evolves, and I discovered the siren call of the tuba. But, for one brief moment, I had the attention of others, while perched on my throne.
Spent some time this afternoon, listening to a complete album by Patty “Gurdy” Bucher. Every song was top, and my regret is that she will (probably) never perform locally. Have I asked? No, or better, not yet. I do recognize when the odds are not in my favour.
Such is life in a small Town. Village. Hamlet. We don’t have many venues for live music, so the playlist of people I might get to hear requires paying attention to online talent. Although I have seen Coig, so my desire for trad gets fulfilled from time to time.
To all you smartpants, thinking that I should create a venue (in my basement), that won’t happen. Not because I haven’t considered the idea. I don’t believe air guitar would get the attention it deserves.
