And on the seventh day

On the seventh day, the army came. Perhaps not the whole army, but a lot of people, with purpuse. And efficient tools and trucks, and at least one army vehicle. I didn’t actually see it go by, but things rattled, and others said they saw a tank. Maybe an APC. More than a Jeep, in any case.

Warm and dry and optimistic

When the week started, there was a novelty factor. We were creating our own electricity. Lights on, lights off, repeat. Over time we included the neighbours. Come on over, because we have hot showers and laundry on demand. Now, I’m trying to pe practical.

Blame the big blow

Just for the record, this has not been the best week ever. A list of minor incidents can colour things, and  the lessons about colouring between the lines are easily forgotten. Ignored. You know.

My gane clock is running

My life has  turned into one of those game shows, where the goal is to beat the clock. Except, I can’t see the timer display. The generator is still running. That’s a plus. It means that we still have hot coffee, running water. Game. Some of the neighbours were here to get a warm shower, and I spent the whole time biting my knuckles. Ready to explore new frontiers

Remember, nothing lasts forever. That is where I am at, mentally, right now. We have lights, and heat, and running water, and refrigeration, and Internet, and… esseentially, the essentials. All is good until the propan

When day and night combines, and the cuckoo is your friend, it must mean that you’ve been awake too long. I blame it on the weather.

That calm before the storm is real

The mood here? I’ll go with “concerned anticipation”. We have a storm coming. If you believe the talking heads on TV, this could be one of the best/worst ever. So hard to separate the hyperbole, when they have time to fill and are getting wound up.

No recordings are believed to exist

Please, don’t ask for evidence that I “did” musical things in my lifetime. Despite being in the shadow of microphones for half a century, nothing seems to have endured. Just memories.

Read the letters, please

How well can you see? For some of us, that’s an important question, and important things have names. The Snellen Chart is my latest obsession. Go ahead. Google it. I had to, so you’ll be in good company.
