Ready to explore new frontiers
Remember, nothing lasts forever. That is where I am at, mentally, right now. We have lights, and heat, and running water, and refrigeration, and Internet, and… esseentially, the essentials. All is good until the propan
e runs out. I don’t know how many more hours that will be, as the system is primitive in its lack of measurement. When the noise goes away, either the electricity has returned (unlikely), or we test our plan C. The untested plan.
Right now, I have too much information. Knowing that the utility complany has more than 82000 customers that (are not really customers, since no product is being delivered). A polite way of saying “you are not alone”.
We can still assist others. Our induction hotplate is on its way up the road to help a small family get a hot meal. They have a generator, but none of the cool accessories that turn their genny into something useful. I imagine the family will adjust their emergency plans, once the world gets back to normal. Note to the world: no idea when that will be. This is new territorry. Ice storms end. The loss of the electrical grid, that’s different. So many trees that are now destined to repurposing as firewlld. For us, we don’t own a wood stove. The Biolite burner is a fun idea, but being able to recharge a cell phone while burning twigs is so, I don’t know, like a school science project. I’m keepint it for Plan F.
And that is why I continue to scribble. It calms me. Family members, elsewhere, wonder how we are doing and I don’t have a meaningful reply. New frontiers.
