Perusal of used stock

Call it tradition; today we returned to Papa Joe’s for the Thursday special. Corned beef in a boiled dinner. Lots of vegetables, a trace of mustard on the side, and a friendly greeting from the staff. Feels like home to me.

Bugs and then earwigs

Missed the sunrise. Not that I wasn’t up and ready, but the cloud cover permitted nothing more than an unkept promise. However, my despair was enough to trigger a down day, wherein we stayed close to the campsite and did other things.

Learning from experienced hands

Another day of learning about construction techniques and the real world of home ownership. I’ve mentioned my long-term intention to exchange my current house for something newer, better and in a very different place. Better to be informed before rather than after the fact about what is involved.

Rainy day notes

I dislike when my eggs (and bacon) are runny. Rather than cook in a driving rain, we chose to go driving to someplace where the rain wouldn’t be a factor.

Degrading conditions

It’s a fact. Not every summer day can be sunny and warm, in a “take me to the beach” kind of way. Today just confirmed the fact.

Split the group and profit from the situation

Took the best part of the week, but I finally went to the beach. Not near, not above; on, with bare feet in the sand and the water. Briefly. Even spent some time hunting the elusive sea glass, but I think this particular beach has been fished out. Too many eagle-eyed tourists and not enough storm sea.

May I recommend the Bubbly Bake?

A confession: we didn’t make it home last night. Distracted by the company we were keeping, and the offer of an extra bed, we decided to skip the long drive back under moonless skies, and slept in a real bed. Just because.

Please identify the instrument

The old gang has appeared, in the campground. Same faces, same dogs (no cats go camping). Same penchant for circling the campfires and staying up much too late.   A couple of hours before midnight, and they’re still poking and joking.

Along the trail and other moments

When the wind blows the full coffee mug over and you start from scratch, take it as a sign that camping requires one to pay attention.
