Even the dog didn’t sleep all night

The dog doesn’t like sleeping in strange rooms. I know this, after a restless couple of hours of listening to the polyrhythms of four paws worth of claws on wooden floors. In resignation, I went forth into the foggy dark of an Island night, and I put the dog in the van. Out of sight, out of mind. And then I slept until sunrise.

Phone booths are a rare device these days

I’m on the road again, and it’s an easy job. Since I don’t get to drive, I have two available options: stare out the window or sleep in a semi-seated position until I awake to stare out the window again. I’m not even responsible for the music choices. Bring on Iggy Pop and The Passenger.

It’s been a short year

Starting vacation at an earlier date this year means that it hasn’t been exactly a twelve month turnaround since the last time. I can deal with it, but it feels a bit rushed. So, imagine how I felt when I was checking around the VMWare site this evening and found that there was a new version of my favourite Linux distro available, and I hadn’t even read the anticipation moaning on the forums.

No sense in racing headlong to relaxation

There. I’ve decided not to race headlong towards relaxation. Instead, I’m going to take the time to breathe, and clean out the refrigerator, and try to find all the camping stuff before we leave. It’s like an epiphany.

Emerging dramatic talent

The Quebec film industry is a world apart, and the local talent appears much larger in the mirror than it would on a larger stage. Still, some individuals stand head and shoulders above the rest. This is a triple picture show review.

Advised to close the windows

Finally. I can now put my alarm clock in the bottom of the sock drawer for a few weeks, lose the socks and take some time to get reacquainted with the dog during daylight hours. Vacation is upon me. More or less; there is still some issues involving painting (dangerous pastime for the colourblind among us).

A change in routine

The last couple of evenings have been very different; my mother and my sister have stopped in to visit, and I haven’t done “the family thing” in ages. We’re like an old comedy team that hasn’t forgotten its routines. The timing is a bit off, but a couple more tries and we could take this tour on the road.

A warm memory

Nelson: Hey, I’m sure it’s just a phase. Like when I use to stand on the overpass and drop computers on the freeway.

Perhaps some better messages would help

I went head to head with the beast and won. Not a big Technicolor battle; just trying to install some software for my sister on her laptop. Something that should have taken five minutes, tops, turned into a battle of wits. I’m glad that I can put away my computer geek armour for the rest of the evening, but this is one skirmish that should never have been necessary.

It’s not what you eat

This evening, I’ve had several trivial food items come across my plate, so to speak. Since nothing of note happened in the world today (if you can’t trust Fox, who can you trust?), I’m going to offer them up. Tasty morsels, so to speak, although, like cheap Chinese, you may be hungry in half an hour. Not my fault; I was forced to remove all of the trans fats.
