Phone booths are a rare device these days
I’m on the road again, and it’s an easy job. Since I don’t get to drive, I have two available options: stare out the window or sleep in a semi-seated position until I awake to stare out the window again. I’m not even responsible for the music choices. Bring on Iggy Pop and The Passenger.
The only road project to rival the pyramids in time needed is still underway. Maybe (by the time we all own flying cars} the construction will be completed on the promised four lane from Quebec to the Island via the NB (northern boreal) route. Still, highly motivated as we are at this time of year, we made the trip in just over ten hours. There was nobody at the cottage when we pulled over the hilltop, so an agreement to go and find food was reached by all present (the dog still has no voting privileges).
Victoria-by-the-Sea is a gem of a community, and our choice of the Landscape Cafe for supper is one worth recommending to anyone in search of a good meal. We had the special which involved a roast pork dinner. Service in French in PEI is still rare, but the youngest of the Sauve family did well, until he had to hand us off to “mon soeur” as he had to attend a meeting. After our dog scared the whole group of little girls at a nearby table we had a chance to see how the other half lives. Something about silent white dogs in vans, in the driver seat seems to shock the younger set. At least she doesn’t own a cellphone.
Speaking of cellphones, contacting my sister to get together involved a tour of the village. There is no public phone, but at two places they were willing to let us play calling card games. The second try was gold, and we headed back to the cottage to unwind after a day on the road. Does one time zone qualify for “jet lag”?
