Tieing the bow

There you have it; locally schools anre now on March Break. Just in time to align with a substantial hike in gas prices. Hmmm. No need to point out that such coincidences are predictable; charge whatever the market will bear, etc.

No fever of revisionism

One of my kids used to play in a band. Well, several different bands, but this one still has a social media presence, albeit several iterations later (which means that my kid no longer gets on stage with them). What was fun is that the band didn’t go through a fever of revisionism, and I was able to find photos taken on stage, back in the day (night??). Great stuff, from a parental viewpoint.

Traction

At some point, the child comes out of the musical shadow of the parent, and affirms his identity. I can tell you when it happened, for me; thanks to a neighbour, I heard my first Led Zeppelin album. With it came the revelation that there were artists, beyond the content of our minimalist home record collection. More importantly, the realization that musically, I could “do” stuff like this. A note just came across my timeline, saluting the 50th anniversary of the album in question, and suddenly I feel old. In a good  way.

Turned over, then turned around

After several days of watching, fingers crossed, the battery  charger suddenly made the leap of faith. Fully charged; 100%. And without further ado, the great beast in the driveway came to life. At least, enough for it to be turned around and reparked. This winter is far from over, but should a boost become required, we won’t need to create a special entrance for the boost vehicle (or lug an oversize collection of lead and acid to within range. I’ve been warned that this is only a the first step, but it’s a big one.

Virtualized reeds

Right now, I’m trying to resuscitate a battery. Actually, a series of them. The RV won’t start, and so I’ve brought out the heavy artillery: a proper battery charger. See how things go, this time tomorrow.

Simple timeline

I have finally found a way to measure a century. Given that I’m not likely to live ten decades, I decided to go with a timeline.

Bricks and time

While watching some “old” TV, produced in the previous century, I found myself saying “Whoa!” Some of the things that are stated by various people would not pass the PC test any more. And that’s a good thing.

Repurposing

After watching a short interview this afternoon, I feel inspired. You see, back in the late 60s, there  was a prog rock group that hit my musical fancy spot. Jethro Tull. It took me years (and a random encounter with a Swiss tourist) to get the answer about how to make THAT flute sound. Of course, I didn’t use the information beyond the most basic level.

Isolating the track

Thank you to the folks over at Radio-Canada. They just did a list of their thirty favourite songs from Quebec in the ‘70s, a special time for me. I was “invested” in learning my second language, and music was the best way. I listened to these songs. I bought vinyl copies. I went so far as to do late-night radio programs on campus… not sure who was listening, but I had fun finding the stuff in our library.

Going high tech to confirm

I have to mention that this morning had some of the best fog I’ve seen. Nothing oppressive; this was the kind of fog that you have when clouds get tangled up with the ground. Go downhill and watch the world fade to pearly gray. I was in and out, over a period of more than an hour, and I was impressed. Of course, the sun finally came out and broke up the party.
