Turned over, then turned around
After several days of watching, fingers crossed, the battery charger suddenly made the leap of faith. Fully charged; 100%. And without further ado, the great beast in the driveway came to life. At least, enough for it to be turned around and reparked. This winter is far from over, but should a boost become required, we won’t need to create a special entrance for the boost vehicle (or lug an oversize collection of lead and acid to within range. I’ve been warned that this is only a the first step, but it’s a big one.
Tomorrow, I’ll figure out why “shore power” isn’t connecting. My first guess was the daisy chain of extension cords, but the web suggest that two of the electronic monitors have stopped talking, requiring a reset. We shall see. It was too cold and dark, this evening. And we don’t intend to go anywhere.
I also managed to get rudimentary Bluetooth connections from my netbook. I had a dongle, kept in a drawer for such an occasion, and it really was “plug and play”. The little brick speaker might get to do something more useful than holding a pile of books in place against a moment of anti-gravity.
I now know who composed the anthem “Jerusalem”. Parry. One of the pioneers in the world of the Grove Music Encyclopedia. It wasn’t ELP, or William Blake. Just a man with a great sense of melody, in the time-tested English band (think orchestral, not rock) model. I’ve long been a fan of the classics: Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Holst. Now Parry. I guess I’m not through educating myself, just yet. If ever I get another euphonium, I’ll add his efforts to the repertoire. If ever… Does anyone donate giant brass noisemakers, out there?
