The annual list

It’s that season again. Yes, R&RHOF awards. The target demographic (for the postulants and the audience) fits squarely on my shoulders.

Hamilton really is all that

Guess I don’t need to crash the frontier, on my way to Broadway. We’re test driving the Disney channel, and this afternoon my sonic space belongs to Hamilton. Really. I don’t have any stage skills, so the ability to sing hundred of pages of lyrical content is something I can only witness. Lin-Manuel is a GOD!

The long masked winter

Lockdown hasn’t been wonderful for those involved in live music. Besides putting a dent in the money tube, it goes against everything a performer wants out of life. Audience, applause, etc. However, some are reaching out to the world, and if you know where to look, there are still concerts available.

Only a few weeks more on the roller coaster

It has been a good day, here in our world. Now we have to fasten our seatbelts; the ride on the rollercoaster goes on, for another seventy-five days. After years of waiting for what should have been the inevitable, our suspension of disbelief is still under test. Yes, the results of the 2020 American election (one of them), has been announced, barring derailment of our train, and when they say “people are dancing in the streets”, there’s no exaggeration.

Not my circus

For anyone following the presidential race in the US, tonight marks the first evening of debates. On social media, the enthusiasm is palpable. What will you be doing, this evening? “laundry”, “my hair”, “mowing the lawn”. Guess I can wait for the reactions on YouTube, later this week.

Beyond my castle walls? Why?

Another afternoon in the house. Which, just before supper, brought the probing question: Was I suffering from agoraphobia?

Diminishing numbers of festivals

Calgary wasn’t on my list of places to go in 2020. Now, there’s even less reason; the Stampede has been cancelled for this year. There goes my only chance to see a chuckwagon pileup, or see rodeo clowns in their natural habitat. Oh well.

In the absence of teleportation and time travel

Call it a compromise. This afternoon, what with the unavailability of both time travel and teleportation, I watched the final concert by Runrig, on YouTube. It was great. According to the stats, I joined almost 22,000 others and spent the best part of three hours watching the end of someone’s life story.

Tiny noises

Maybe the last three years have been like TV… bad TV. We’re all watching the same channel, and the writing continues to take a downward trajectory. Today, after the courts recommended a sentence for a convicted felon, the attorney general received a memo from his boss. The next step was to ignore the sentencing guidelines, because his boss found that the recommendations were too tough. Did I mention that the felon is a buddy of his boss? That’s important. Anyhow, the three prosecutors assigned to the case have resigned, and now we wait for the next episode.
