Not my circus

posted in education, music, politics |

For anyone following the presidential race in the US, tonight marks the first evening of debates. On social media, the enthusiasm is palpable. What will you be doing, this evening? “laundry”, “my hair”, “mowing the lawn”. Guess I can wait for the reactions on YouTube, later this week.

To be fair, I wouldn’t have watched. Not my circus. And I’ve also missed most of the online debates, here in Canada, during the last few elections. The idea that something new will come out in a controlled forum is mythical.

What I can plan to do is trying to get a good night’s sleep. After all, there’s no storm imminent, and temperature allows leaving a window or two cracked open; fresh air alert. If the house is ever visited by wildlife (not talking about you, foxes), the dog will let us know.

So, what else is going on? I did read something about CERB ending. Didn’t concern me. I should check with the kids, since their city goes into a virtual lockdown tomorrow night. It will be interesting to take a read on their reactions (at the beginning and after a week or two). The party animal phase is over, as they head toward middle age.

Here’s one story that made me go “Huh?”. In SK, school bands are getting back to regular practice, wearing disposable masks with carefully place holes (for their mouthpieces). I want to see this in video. I could see where musicians with a lifetime of technique might make it work, but the average first year band student has little extra available for something like this.
