Evidence of a slow news day: that the CBC reported on the name of a puppy belonging to a prince and his princess. Evidence of a slow day in my life: that I read the headline. Sometimes the excitement is painful.

Whispering about the problem person

The next time you encounter a cross dog, look it right in the eye and ask the question. “Is your human in need of intervention?”

Fighting in the cage

Used to be, if you wanted to watch people “beating” on one another, you tuned in the hockey match. Or, for something really different, an afternoon of roller derby. In this new century (if I can use the habits of family members), the spectator evening of choice involves something called UFC. Not to be confused with KFC, which doesn’t like to be watched.

Driven to barking

Holiday weekend equals a reason for a holiday meal. Except. With a mobile family, scheduling is paramount. This time around, the only common moment for we five was today at suppertime. In anticipation, I awoke early and made my way to the nearest supermarket to fetch foodstuffs.

The mask and the burglar

Proof that hockey really is our national sport: the French-language debate has been moved to a different evening, due to a conflict with the start of the Hab/Bruin series. When I heard about the request, I thought that we were doing belated April Fool stories. The end of the experiment

Our experiment lasted four years, six months and a scattering of days and nights. Call it socialization, or accommodation or just plain stubborn meeting stubborn. Finally, call it over.

Only dogs go camping

One sure sign that I’m at home here is the constant stream of familiar faces.

I headed  into the grocery store this morning, in order to stock up on cheese, fresh fruits and cinnamon rolls (my idea of a balanced diet). Over by the salads, there were my aunt and uncle, acting like they belonged there. Out in the corridor by the pharmacy, another acquaintance hollered me over for a quick chat and catchup. That never happens during the winter months.

Wishing the connector better matched my finger size

Special moments in a dog’s day

Early morning is a wonderful time of day. The house is so quiet that I actually hear the refrigerator working. The dog shows her need for attention by turning on her back and presenting a hairless belly. Yes, scratching calms the nerves.
