Wishing the connector better matched my finger size
One day done and I feel relaxed. I mean, I did get a few little things done today, and tomorrow sees me motivated to do more.
Right at the top of today’s list: repair the external GPS antenna. Last season saw a sudden disconnect, as the tiny wire in the MCX plug let go. Not dangerous, not crucial, but on my conscience. I even went so far as to order a new one from someone in Hong Kong, but today I decided to repair. Ecological, etc. I need tinier tools if I want to do this again, but after sufficient time and mumbling about needing those tools, I managed to get a solder tack that held. We’re ready to travel. True, this is no longer the principal map for the designated driver, but I still intend to collect data with the goal of contributing to the OpenMaps project.
Since the soldering station was already hot, I also replaced three capacitors in my “soon to be completed” receiver project. The kit had shipped with a couple of parts missing in action, so I called up the gang at Digi-Key and ordered exact replacements. Good practice in component substitution.
The dog is in a state of obvious bliss. Her preferred humans, hanging around, rubbing her rump and ear regularly. Good times. I don’t think she has realized that we’re intending to go on a road trip (without her). She’ll be back on guard duty, real soon now. Maybe I should take her for another walk, just to leave her with pleasant memories.
