Why not fake out the forces of might?

The fences are in place. Toronto is prepared to emulate Quebec, come next weekend.

I’m not going to be there. The system is prepared; not one shout of protest will be heard by the “deciders”, and come Monday next we’ll have a few bad memories and not much else to show for the publicly funded party. Oh, there’s a paltry billion dollars that will have bought some toys and padded the overtime cheques of a large number of police officers; chump change.

Confuse me if you can

The first barbecue of the season is done. I took the sage advice offered by my family, left the bottled sauce in the refrigerator and simply let the set of steaks cook up in their own juices. No charred chew toys. Maybe it’s time to go back to the primitive recipes.

The illusion of a lakeside evening

Sadly, you can’t make this stuff up. From time to time, I read newspapers from that big city in the center of our country (not exactly, but that’s why the term eccentric was spawned). To keep informed, etc. Right now, the only news on their horizon involves the G8+20 showcase.

Towards a better informed citizenry

It was just a matter of time. After all, I work with (other people’s) money, and money buys stuff. Today, an iPad crossed my path.

Pension suspension

The wife had better keep an eye on our current prime minister’s diet; he seems to be facing some sort of chemical imbalance that is transforming him into the Canadian version of Ming the Merciless.

Redundant opportunity

Who knew? At the very moment where I’m awaiting delivery of a radio that serves as a scanner, I discover that the local good stuff is being streamed on the net. Kind of makes things redundant.

Avoid humming the refrain

The family has to stop jumping from fright when the front door slams closed. I’ve checked, and the only reason for the sudden change of status is that the dog has decided to investigate passersby. Yes, she is attached to the door (a convenient tie point) and she hasn’t learned to warn the rest of us. No big deal.

Celebration, Montreal style

I wish that Mr Einstein was still around. Seemed like a smart enough fellow, despite the hair. He understood something about “relativity”, which lays a theoretical framework on the time system we use to regulate our daily dailies. Here’s the thing; maybe I could get an educated explanation about why my time away from the office goes by so quickly, but the hours at work drag by.

When military might trumps native rights

If it hadn’t been for that rusty washbasin, we could have been learning about any tiny point in the middle of the ocean.

Could you summarize that for the meeting?

I work around people that go to meetings. And when they are in those meetings, all too often somebody is determined that ideas will “go further” if the presenter presents, you guessed it, a Powerpoint Presentation. Let’s summarize this. Read the rest of this entry »
