If only more people took the time to experiment with crayons. Mix too much yellow and red, and your orange might not work; just check the final match of the 2010 World Cup tournament. Holland’s team received far too many yellow cards, and the addition of a red card may be the reason the final score went against them. Just sayin’…

This afternoon, I painted a tent. Now, don’t get all fretful that I’ve turned artist; I know my limitations. My tents tend to look something like this…

Certain things make me feel “lucky”. Little things; running several blocks for a potential bus and watching it pull up instead of away. Getting something besides a bill in the postal delivery. Missing an appliance recall by “that much”.

I wish that Mr Einstein was still around. Seemed like a smart enough fellow, despite the hair. He understood something about “relativity”, which lays a theoretical framework on the time system we use to regulate our daily dailies. Here’s the thing; maybe I could get an educated explanation about why my time away from the office goes by so quickly, but the hours at work drag by.

Life is like a hockey game. Without the save, the game ends badly. Happily for the Habs, they’re still safe; the win against Pittsburgh means that another level of playoff competition has been handled successfully. Will the city of Montreal finish this evening so well? Catch the news at 11, as they say.

Some folks that this sports thing WAY too seriously. Here in the land of bent sticks and rubber missiles, the playoffs are underway. First proof; the number of cars with flags flying from their side windows. Only a vexillologist can explain why a big C, in red, surrounding a tiny H, in white should be flown, ever. Especially in the absence of a parade formation.

Finally, I’ve watched a race from start to finish, and it was fun.
All a question of timing, really. We were home from a short afternoon in the neighbourhood, and as I flipped through the channels, the “call to the post” was sounding. The field was ready. Drivers all dressed for success. A rainy afternoon, promising slippy moments during the actual race. A crowd of 155,000 in the stands. Some betting; there are those who would bet on snails, if nothing else was available. One fellow actually put $100,000 in a single wager.

Step into summer with sandals. White socks are optional.
Seriously, come beach weather, sandals are necessary. After all, there are laws about removing sand from provincial beaches. Bare soles test the temperature of sun-beaten sand, and sneakers require too much after-visit maintenance. My old sandals (comfortable enough in their time) have become a study in crazy glue and woodscrew repairs. After seeing a new pair that I liked yesterday, but unable to “grow” three sizes before closing time, I was really keen when the papers showed a “today only sale” of the same model, at 50% off the yesterday sale price.

In keeping with the seasonal theme, I dug deep into the archives and dusted off the only rock opera with an Easter theme: JC Superstar. And now, after 100 minutes in the desert, I’m ready for something less seasonal.

In Souris, if the CBC got their facts right (it does happen, from time to time), the lost stones have been found. Cached, if you will, under the stands at the local arena. No diamonds in the rough here, we’re talking granite. Meant to last for a long time. Stones with handles, no less.
