Some saves are important
Life is like a hockey game. Without the save, the game ends badly. Happily for the Habs, they’re still safe; the win against Pittsburgh means that another level of playoff competition has been handled successfully. Will the city of Montreal finish this evening so well? Catch the news at 11, as they say.
Elsewhere, even a big save earlier this season wasn’t enough. In Idol land, Big Mike Lynche has run out of time, and the scoreboard (those anonymous votes, counted up, millions at a go) isn’t in his favour. The final four is now the final three: Casey, Lee and Crystal are all safe.
The various blogs and fan forums have been predicting this one for a few weeks. It’s a demographics world, and the next American Idol won’t be just about talent. The judging is coloured bunting on a small stage. I’m not an infallible judge of talent, but I hoped he’d go to the final two. Won’t happen.
Up close to St-Hyacinthe, the small community of St-Jude is in shock. Just over a day ago, a family home disappeared into a strange bog of clay that subsided along a rural road. Four dead, without explanation. An Act of God, as the insurance company might say. Turns out that there are areas throughout the province where exactly this sort of geological flaw exists. Something called Leda clay.
The people in this small community knew the missing family. Worked with them. Passed them down by the local supermarket. No anonymous victims this time around. Just sadness.
