You bought dross, dude!

Bill from the Globe probably said it best: “All that glitters is not gold”. I don’t have much of the stuff around, even counting a stockpile of obsolete electronics, but I care about the concept. If you want to put your money into tiny tablets with a fancy logo, at least let the base metal be genuine.

A closer look at their rig

The last our breakfast meets with the last of the summer folks. Some people need to winter in places like FL and TX; this was our chance to wish them a warm season with no more hurricanes. Discussion turned to mining techniques and some thoughts about RV life. I have experience with neither, so my interventions were limited.

Look forward to years of driving in circles.

The little green machine came home this afternoon. What with the service up to date, we can look forward to years of driving in circles!

(Re)creating new sounds

Should I brag about it, or keep it secret because enhancing my nerd cred is wrong? Oh what the…! This afternoon, after a short training session from someone via YouTube, I installed the necessary software, downloaded the necessary content and changed the internal sounds on a small synthesizer.

The fur started to fly

A bit of biofeedback on my vaccination. One day later, and I have this ongoing urge to take a nap. Of course, I have had that same urge, prior to yesterday, so there may be no correlation (or causation). I’ll keep an eye on the whole idea. Probably “shut eye”.

Getting ready to maintain

Maybe it’s time to purchase the maintenance manual. For our lawn tractor, I mean. Had an offer to do the fall tuneup, if I would pick up the necessary parts beforehand. It was then that I realized that I didn’t know how to begin. What did the parts look like? Where are the part numbers? I turned to the Internet, and did find out what the model number might be for the tractor. Used a camera; kneeling in the gravel and scribbling long alphanumeric strings on my wrist is not nearly as much fun as I had hoped.

Faced with two choices, take the third one

Sunday. The end of the grocery cycle. Faced with two choices for supper (thawed chicken whatevers from the freezer, or that can of meatballs and gravy that is kept around in case of emergencies), I opted for the third choice. Elsewhere.

Out by the immolation altar

While standing in front of my BBQ (the immolation altar), I realized that summer isn’t over, yet. The mosquitoes are still ready to zoom in for their offering of blood. Of course, they are also there when I put the dog out or in, or when I wander down by the garden. I’m not experienced at burning veggies, so this has nothing to do with whether or not I should be a vegetarian. It’s all about my place in the food pyramid.

The next few hours will be presented in Technicolor

Some nights, sleep is elusive. When things finally kick in, accept that the next few hours will be presented in Technicolor. And then you get up, and the day is not nearly as interesting.

Flights of fancy

I’d like to rewind the movie (my movie), back to a time before “walking on the moon”. I attended elementary school in a room filled not by numbers but by grade levels. Five of them. We had one teacher, so a certain level of self-motivation was expected. Of course, small boys can’t focus on arithmetic and phonics for long stretches, so I flew a rocket ship.
