Sort of fixing

Our brains have evolved, to the point where we can get the meat out of a nutshell without damaging the food or our hands. Magic, from the viewpoint of some other species. And we also have learned to transfer simple skills to new situations.

Small steps

The introduction to the new RV is underway, in tiny steps. Not going to race to my new home on wheels, because I want to get in there without incident. Hear me out.

Will he notice the difference?

The new vehicle has the same license plate as its predecessor. Exactly the same. Actually, the same physical plate, with a new ad surround. Convenient for all involved. Or the DMV, at a minimum. Does it make it easier to remember? Nope. When I need to report the random combination of letters and numbers, I will go to the back and eyeball my answer.

Make your mark

This afternoon, I had one of the kindest interactions with a delivery driver, ever. There was a signature requirement, and I explained that I could not see where to sign. The driver asked if I would accept a big X next to my name, on the gadget, as proof that I had received the package. Transaction complete.

I learned to be a doctor from TV

For the majority of us,  we learn about medicine from  TV drama. Decades of it. My first memories involved a gurney, racing down a corridor and through double doors (Be Casey). Or a world where white smocks were mandatory (Kildare) I did not understand what was on display, and I din not actually need to. The information was carefully  removed from reality, to  keep fake doctors from doing their rounds.

Sessional artistry

And here we are. The day is done, and I have no idea about what set this moment in history  into uniqueness. I like to record what makes a day different, and all I have is that the first night in the RV went well with no obvious signs of frostbite for the sole occupant.

Want a new penny

Initially, I considered  an inscription on my arm.  Either a brand, or ink. GSTK, standing for a longer Gawd Sayve The Kyng.  Just to be prepared for  the moment when I became confused over what we were witnessing. I still have time, but I have decided to sleep through tomorrow. No need to witness the first coronation of my lifetime. Imagine if there was a sudden abdication, and after going down the list, we ended up with a queen. My  work would be in vain.

In no particular order

Let me start by stating that I believe in the rights of the government to make rules.  I do wonder, sometimes, if they ever read their own rules, or work out the order of the hoops you have to go through.  That is, that all the various subsystems are functional. For the safety of others.

New van at hand

Not far from the main entrance. The house was under the watchful gaze of an assassin. Stealthy, fleet of foot, disarmingly photogenic. We use the code name “Foxy”, but for one  distracted squirrel, overcome by the attraction of an endless bounty of seeds, the term angel of death is in play. I heard the sound, after the fact. We need such a guardian

Exit from the chorus

The announcement, late last evening, was short. Almost devoid of detail. Gordon Lightfoot had died.
