War and the common burger

For the average person, trying to understand why our newest war of concern is causing a large fast food chain to withdraw from the local market (local being where the war is being waged) can seem murky. Well, never fear; there are videos to explain the situation.

Sealss in the fields

I don’t see a lot of things, any more. I have reasons. But, when I look out my kitchen window, I don’t see any (sea) ice. And that’s not good, for a lot of reasons. We’ve had ice off our shores for eons. At least for the recorded history period. We depend on the ice to protect  our fragile shoreline, during those seasonal gales. We depend on the ice to protect our harbour infrastrcuture. Seals use the icepack to whelp.

A sign of spring that you can trust

Checking the calendar for spring can be misleading. Similarly, using the ground cover (right now, uniformly white) isn’t enough. I am going to go with a different clueset. In bringing the grocieries from the car, the load also contained a pair of skis. Flatlander, not hilly. But moving the skis from the trunk to the garage is a polite way to announce that conditions are seriously degrading. Unless we have another snow storm, with cold air following, this winter is toast. There, you heard it here, first.

Watch me get adaptive

Funny how attached we can become to certain things. In my case, a pair od dirt cheap reading glasses. My very first pair; purchased on the way home from the hospital after surgery several years ago. I have worn them, on a daily basis ever since. And today, when one of the legs (you know what I mean) snapped in half, I didn’t miss a beat. Duct tape to the rescue. No fashion statement here; this is pure  necessity. And I will purchase a new pair (they’re cheap as dirt), but until I can get to the city, I’m kicking it old school. Poor old school.

Default displaays are just fine

My home has become a battle ground: me vs certain gadgets. Like most other home, we have an interesting collage of old technology with new technology. That mechanical cuckoo clock that hangs in the kitchen/dining area is a great example.

Optical nerve still in overdrive mode

What colour is it? White, again. Can’t see to the edge of the property right now, which is one more reason to stay at home. The neighbours just got home from a family trip, and picked up their fur baby, wo seems indifferent to whether he stays or goes. I guess that means we are now part of his family.

Is anyone hiring?

How do I find a job as a spy? I have watched a few movies, over the decades, and the work seems easy enough. Dress in nice clothes, go to a few parties. Maybe even a casino (we have one in the city). Learn to drive a fast car. And then?

My failure as a corrie-watcher

Silly me. Sat in front of the TV after supper. Didn’t want to find/learn the clicker, so I left the channel where it was. The openin minutes of “Corrie” (is that how the regulars refer to that world?) Decades of storyline, effectively excluding anyone watching randomly. Yes, I could understand the accent, and no, I didn’t have the foggiest about their world.

Under different geography

We have subscriptions, to a number of online TV networks. European (meaning British) for the main part. No laugh track, due in part to the serious nature of drama. And I realize that there is a significant portion of my life that has been missed. I could have had a place in a different society.

Why there, rather than here?

Finaly, it’s time for March madness. That’s the time of year when people I know send back social media posts that they are finally in Florida. And I don’t get it. Never been there; perhaps I need to be older. Anyhow, I have a few points of comparison to offer.
