Limitless possibilities for conversation

As long as my phone keeps ringing, I will do my best to answer. There’s only three rings before the call goes to some virtual answering device, so things depend on me being in the room. Downstairs? Outside? Forget about it. And I no longer depend on the caller display; fooled too many tinmes by those callers that start with V09/ The pleasure, at this end, is found in my chance to have meaningful dialog with complete strangers.

A striking absence of rain

Unfair of me, to poke holse in someone else’s story. But, if you place your work online, and classify the effort as a documentary, it’s fair game. This afternoon, I watched something with plot holes large enough to allow a cement truck to come through.

A few more photos, if possible

A special nod of thanks is due to all those who have recorded my world with photos, over more than my lifetime. I still haven’t spotted myself, and I wonder if I do will I dispappear into some strange parallel universe. I’ll take that risk. There are photos that show my father’s home, wwhen he was stillll in elementary school. And homes that are no more. Shipwrecks. Trains. I love them all.

Room for a new body

There’s a new body I  the house. Not somebody; I choose my words carefully. Came in with the fternoon, courier. Zzzzzzzzzzzzi btought out my knapsack of expensive treasures, because I have a lot of glass that needs to shine, in the optical sense.

Will that be coach or under the coach?

Someone stole the rails. Locally. When I was smaller (physically) one could get on the night train to the boat and get away. Short term or permanently. I never availed myseof of that possibility, but I used to wave at the passengers as the coaches went by the house. They may not have noticed me stainding on the stoop in my fancy pyjamas, but I saw them. An important part of my childhood. And due to my loyalty to big rail, I made a lot of long trips from this coast to the big city. As I told anyone that would listen, you needed 32 hours, warm clothes and the skill of sleeping in a pretzel format. I couldn’t afford anything better than a coach seat (aka Daynighter) but with enough warm beer and stale sandwiches, it was a wonderful way to see part of my world.

Auspensions and dissonance

I have a secret, hidden in my past. At one point, I turned away from the traditional path of preparing for gainful employment, and turned to an intense study of music. Try to imagine someone that still didn’t have a driving permit or any real experience in the world, deciding that my future lay in the priesthood of the musical educator. There was no actual chance of ever getting all the way to my diploma; I still hadn’t learned to play piano.

Objects in the mirror are closer

I have an important role in my extended family. Self-appointed, perhaps, but still important.  I am the first born. Oldest of all the descendents, on one limb of my tree. My job is to prepare the story for the others. Again, they don’t know it yet.

Despite any perceived echo

When two dogs get busy barking, things can escalate. Perhaps they listen to their own voices, and start to believe the story as it unfolds. I mean, if the other dog says something that sounds like what I said, it must be true. Ah, yes. The old echo chamber routine.

Is that skating or skiing?

Another day of circumsance; I watched an even from the games, without understanding the why or the where.I think it involved skis, but the players were trying to skate, uphill, in a really nasty winter storm. The whole even was truncated by 40 percent, and not one competitor complained. I guess they really are there for the medals, and not the brutal exposire to winter. More power to them. Somebody won, but I was there by virtue of timing. In the end, it ended. More in four (years time).
