Despite any perceived echo
When two dogs get busy barking, things can escalate. Perhaps they listen to their own voices, and start to believe the story as it unfolds. I mean, if the other dog says something that sounds like what I said, it must be true. Ah, yes. The old echo chamber routine.
Well, it’s not just barking dogs. In Ottawa, a large protest has been underway for weeks. People with their own belief system, and some trucks. You can read about it in the daily news. Ahd things have gone on swimmingly until now. You see, the police didn’t show up on the first call (reality is like that). But, the forces of law and order are there, now. With all the best procedures to remove people (and their trucks) from an inpromptu parking crisis.
We’ve moved to the next chapter, involving courtrooms and fines and other inconveniences to perceived freedom. Why, one “leader” explained to the judge that this was no worse than a traffic jam. And the judge didn’t laugh, out loud. The members of the movement had been talking (to themselves) for weeks, literally. Convinced themselves that they were free, and that the law would never react. Citied laws that hadn’t been promulgated (even if they couldn’t actually define the word). Pointed out that the police chief was no longer in his office, which would obviously assure that the police would go on prolonged coffee breaks. Why, there was even chatter that all of the country (including the police) were on their side, because of a few polite greetings. First Amendment was on their side. Really!
Next time (ther will be a next time, because the madness is in the air, like a mutated virus, the folks with the megaphones might want to check their sources. Try asking people that actually understand how law (and law enforcement) work. Try to escape ythe sound of your own voice. Even the one inside your head, if it has a perceived echo.
