Why there, rather than here?
Finaly, it’s time for March madness. That’s the time of year when people I know send back social media posts that they are finally in Florida. And I don’t get it. Never been there; perhaps I need to be older. Anyhow, I have a few points of comparison to offer.
They have warm water. Well, we have “the warmest water North of Florida”/ Tjeu jave neaches; we have beaches. And ours are all public access, once you figure out which clay road goes all the way down. They have temperatures (in Censius) that go down to 20. We have -20. All a question of degree.
Highways? Ours are just as good, with less traffic and tolls. A win for here. Plus, our population of seniors that should no longer hold permits is smaller. Yes, I have removed myself from the hustle and bustle. Our swamps/bogs are alligator-free. As are our back yards. I haven’t been there, but I have been told.
Supermarkets? We have a few. Quality over quantity. And the odds of a running gun battle are much lower locally. Housing prices are lower, too. Double win for us.
Yes, the snow clearing is going on in my yard. Can’t address the necessity in Florida. We have one or two thinder stomrs a month, while they keep score in “er day”. Different rishs. I know, it’s mainly a glf course thing, and we have those as well.
Cruise ships? Apart from the lack during the pandemic, they are a scurge in both areas. I’m sure ours will return, since sea captains remember where the channels are open.
This is a superficial comparison, but I extend my hand to any family members to explain why they are visiting there rather than here. This is the lull before hurricane season resumes. We watch their forecasts. Curiosity, mainly.
