Sealss in the fields
I don’t see a lot of things, any more. I have reasons. But, when I look out my kitchen window, I don’t see any (sea) ice. And that’s not good, for a lot of reasons. We’ve had ice off our shores for eons. At least for the recorded history period. We depend on the ice to protect our fragile shoreline, during those seasonal gales. We depend on the ice to protect our harbour infrastrcuture. Seals use the icepack to whelp.
And now, biologists are reporting seal tracks in the fields. Not normal. They’re coming ashore, based on insttinct. Once upon a time, seals had few predators during that period where the whole mothering process is underway. Now, under the branches of coastal trees, the four-legged hunters are feeding.
I know; the media tries to calm our fears. That “global warming” thing is just a ruse. Not exactly. We dod get messages from Nature. No ice is an important one. Yes, we received snow this winter. Noting like ’15, but that was due to a glitch in the Matrix. Let the record show that the one meter of snow, received this last month, is pretty much gone. Will it affect the water table? I don’t know. I depend on the water table for life here, including heating the house. I take this all very personally.
We still have a few days to run before the official change of seasons; I’d bet good money that we’re not going to get any important amount of snow between now and lawn season. More than a hunch. I’ve been “around” long enough to remember real winter, and this is not that. No drifts up to the roof. Hardly any snow along the treeline. Seals in the fields. It aall counts.
