Watch me get adaptive
Funny how attached we can become to certain things. In my case, a pair od dirt cheap reading glasses. My very first pair; purchased on the way home from the hospital after surgery several years ago. I have worn them, on a daily basis ever since. And today, when one of the legs (you know what I mean) snapped in half, I didn’t miss a beat. Duct tape to the rescue. No fashion statement here; this is pure necessity. And I will purchase a new pair (they’re cheap as dirt), but until I can get to the city, I’m kicking it old school. Poor old school.
I have also decided that my Windows 7 on the laptop is due for an upgrade. Apparantly the tools in the “make the screen work for me”set are better. Of course, I’m not rushing blindly into this (no pun intended). A new hard drive is wending its way here, and I will clone the main hard drive before upgrading. Plausible deniability. I’ve done this sort of thing before. This time around, I will probably need someone to read prompts, but once the upgrade is complete, I will feel more secure to dig and delve into assistive technologies. Plus, the price for a new drive is quite reasonable. Not exactly “cheap as dirt”, but I have enough loose in my budget to allow this frivolity.
There are lots of videos out there, to walk a neophyte through the steps. My hope is that I have enough “baggage” to let the learning curve resemble a flat line. We shall see (again, no pun intended). Come along for the ride, as I move to a brighter, more modern world on my trusty laptop. Notice that I want to avoid moving back to a desktop solution. And yes, my laptop is parked, but I could always escape to a new place and carry on until the battery went flat. You have wifi there, right?
